An upper GI endoscopy (also known as esophagogastroduodenoscopy or EGD) is a medical procedure used to examine the upper part of the digestive system. The procedure involves using a long, flexible tube called an endoscope, which has a camera and light at its tip, to visually inspect the esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine (the duodenum).
