Novel way to manage a failed Total Shoulder Arthroplasty

by Randy R. Clark, MD | 13 years ago

Randy Clark, MD from Coral Desert Orthopedics in St. George Utah narrates a video demonstration of management of a failed total shoulder arthroplasty. This case was done with Dr. Joseph Burns at the world renowned Southern California Orthopedic Institute. Dr. Clark is an orthopedic surgeon who has sports medicine/arthroscopic fellowship training. Dr. Clark has a particular interest in minimally invasive shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle tendon and ligament reconstruction. This case is interesting, but not typical management of a failed total shoulder arthroplasty. Certainly the primary goal of this surgery was to evaluate the patient for infection as a cause of implant failure and attempt definitive management of the problem with a minimally invasive procedure. Generally, patients with total shoulder arthroplasty failure will require definitive implant removal and open revision surgery. We share this particular case because it was interesting and may spark conversation.
