Chronic Proximal Hamstring Rupture Reconstruction with Achilles Allograft: HAMMER Surgical Technique

by Dr. Laith M. Jazrawi | 3 months ago

#HamstringInjury #ProximalHamstring #Orthopedics Dr. Guillem Gonzalez-Lomas of NYU Langone Orthopedics presents the HAMMER technique (Hamstring Augmentation and Muscle Matrix Enhanced Reconstruction) for reconstruction of a chronic proximal hamstring tear. The case presented is a 49-year-old male who sustained a complete proximal hamstring tear while water skiing, confirmed on MRI showing 12cm of retraction. Dr. Lomas discusses the background on these tears, the case presentation and imaging, indications for surgery, then walks through the surgical technique in a step-by-step manner. Afterwards, he discusses the rehabilitation protocol, patient follow-up, and discusses outcomes shown in the literature.
